Pipe mouthpiece questions

I have some piezo mics of different sizes and properties. I’m planning to make them into mouthpieces for the Pipe. I’ll connect the mics to TRS jacks and 3D print enclosures for them.

I notice that the Soma mouthpiece has a stereo TRS jack, although I don’t believe the mic is stereo. Can anyone tell me how it is wired? Is it possible to open a Soma mouthpiece without damaging it? It would help to see what’s inside.

Hi,

You can use a standard TS or a TRS jack for the piezos if you’d like, just leave the ring of the TRS disconnected and that will let you mute the piezo if the top sensor isn’t held down. The ring on the TRS connector is for use with the top (mic activate) sensor on the pipe, it allows the mic to be muted when the sensor is not touched. If you use a TS connector instead of a TRS, then the piezo/mic is active/unmuted all the time.
